What’s Stephen Ministry?
Stephen Ministry at Three Village Church seeks to share Christ’s love and healing power with hurting people in our community by training laity to provide one-to-one Christian care to people going through a difficult time in life.
Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one lay caring ministry based on the Stephen Series system. Stephen Ministries was founded in 1975 and is currently operating in 30 countries internationally. Since its inception, one-and-a-half-million people have had a Stephen Minister walk with them and provide confidential Christian care during tough times.
How Does Stephen Ministry Work?
A trained Stephen Minister is confidentially matched with a person experiencing a life crisis. The Stephen Minister then meets with the Care Receiver to listen, care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support. He/she provides one to one care, meeting with the care receiver once a week for about an hour. In addition, Stephen Ministers gather twice monthly with their Stephen Leaders for peer supervision, continuing education and prayer.
To receive a Stephen Minister contact us at stephenministry@3vc.org. A Stephen Leader who manages referrals will meet with you to learn more about your situation and connect you with a Stephen Minister. All communication is confidential.
Who are the Stephen Ministers?
Stephen Ministers are Three Village Church members who have received 50 hours of training to offer high-quality, one-to-one Christian care to people going through tough times. Stephen Ministers come from all walks of life. Their commonality is a passion for bringing Christ’s love and care to people during a time of need.
Who are the Care Receivers?
Care Receivers are people—3VC members or attendees and others from the community—who receive care from a Stephen Minister. These are people struggling through a difficult time in life—experiencing grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, crisis of faith, major life transitions, or other life crises. The length of a care relationship varies, depending on the needs in each individual case. The identity of those receiving care, and anything that is shared, remains confidential.
