MEMORY VERSE
Believing in Jesus makes me a new person
(adapted from 2 Corinthians 5:17)

BIBLE POINT
Jesus gives us new life!

Ask these questions to start today's conversation:
Why did the people love Jesus?
How do you show people that you love them?
Did you ever go to a parade? What was that like?

You can say:  When Jesus came into Jerusalem, it was almost like a parade. People
waved branches and shouted “Praise God!” to praise Jesus and show how much they loved him. We have many reasons to praise Jesus, too. Today we praise Jesus because Jesus gives us new life.

Read the story together:
Our Bible lesson this week is from Mark 11:1-11.  Do you have a Pre-k or kids Bible at home?  If you are looking for one we highly recommend the Jesus Story Book Bible!

Have a donkey stuffed animal?  Use it while you read the follow story, as told by the donkey Jesus rode on into Jerusalem...
Heehaw! Hello, boys and girls! I’m a donkey, and my name is Bray. I’m the most special donkey in the whole world. Do you know why? Because I got to carry Jesus on my back! Heehaw! Let me tell you all about it.
One day I was standing outside my master’s house. We lived on a quiet street in a little village, so I wasn’t used to seeing many strangers. But all of a sudden, two men untied me and started to lead me away.
“Why are you untying that donkey?” asked the man who lived next door.
“The Lord needs it,” the strangers answered. “We’ll bring it back soon.”
“OK,” said the neighbor.
So the two men led me away. I wondered where they were taking me. I gave a tiny,
little “heehaw” to let them know I was scared. They patted me and talked to me quietly, and then I felt better.
Soon we met a man they called Jesus. Jesus had the kindest face I’d ever seen. Heehaw! He patted me gently, and I rubbed my nose against him. That’s how a donkey says, “I like you.”
Jesus’ friends spread their coats on my back. The coats felt soft and warm. Then Jesus sat on my back. That was a surprise. No one had ever sat on me before. I shifted my
feet and said, “Heehaw!” Then Jesus stroked my neck and spoke to me in a soft voice. I twisted my head around to look at Jesus. He looked so kind and wonderful that I decided to give him the best, most gentle ride that I could.
As Jesus and I started down the road, other people came with us. As we got closer
to Jerusalem, more and more people came along. Soon there was a big crowd of happy people on both sides of the road. They loved Jesus, I could tell. They waved branches as we passed by and shouted, “Hosanna!” Sometimes I joined in with a great big “Heehaw!”
Some of them even laid their coats in the road to make a nice path for us. I stepped very carefully. I was proud to carry Jesus. I could tell Jesus was someone special, and I was glad to be part of Jesus’ special day.

FIND THE DONKEY ACTIVITY
Play this version of Hide and Seek at home. The person who hides is the Donkey. Everyone else is a Disciple. As each Disciple finds the Donkey, he or she joins the Donkey in the hiding place. Play until all the whole family has found the Donkey. Then choose a new Donkey, and play the game again. As you play, you can talk about the donkey that carried Jesus into Jerusalem.

BIBLE
Our Bible lesson this week is from John 13:1-17.  Do you have a Pre-k or kids Bible at home?  If you are looking for one we highly recommend the Jesus Story Book Bible!
Go ahead and read today's bible story together.
Some Questions to Ask:
What did Jesus do for his disciples?  He washed their feet; he served them.
Why did Jesus wash his disciples feet?  He wanted to do something nice for them.
What did Jesus want his friends to do?  Help others; serve people.
What does Jesus want you to do?  Help others; do nice things for others.

You can say:  When we help others, we show that we’re following Jesus. When we believe in Jesus, our actions show that Jesus gives us new life.
WORSHIP
Worship together as a whole family.  Check out the Kids' Club dance-moves worship songs  or the 3VC Worship playlist on YouTube.
ACTIVITY
Any cleaning activity can work to illustrate today's bible story.  Try this one:  Place a tub of sand/dirt, a tub of water, some washcloths, and paper towels on a low table or do this outside.  Place plastic dolls and action figures on the table as well.   Pick up a doll, and get its feet wet. Then place the doll’s feet in the tub of sand.

You can say:  We learned in today’s Bible story that Jesus washed the disciples’ feet. Jesus was a servant to his disciples. Work together to march your dolls through the sand and then wash and dry their feet.

Ask questions such as “How does the sand make your dolls’ feet feel?” “What happens when you go outside without shoes?” “How do you think the disciples felt after walking outside?” “How does it make you feel to help your dolls?”

Say:  We can be thankful that Jesus gives us new life by following his example. There are lots of things we don’t always like to do, but often our actions help other people.

BIBLE
Our Bible lesson this week is from Acts 16:16-34. I would encourage you to read it together, paraphrasing verses 16-23 and reading verses 24-34 as a family. We’ve been learning that Paul and Silas have been worshiping God in prison.

WORSHIP
We want our preschoolers to grow closer to Jesus by learning that:
  • We worship God by singing to him
  • We worship God by praying to him
  • We worship God by thanking him
Worship together as a whole family.  Check out the Kids' Club dance-moves worship songs to worship God with your WHOLE BODY!
ACTIVITY GAME: HOP TO THANKFULNESS
Keep learning through a whole family activity!  Gather together in one room. Have one family member call out a color.  Everyone will hop to an item they’re thankful for that is that color.  For example, if you call out the color blue, a child might hop to a blue ball or a blue toy. Give everyone time to say why they’re thankful for the items they chose before they hop back to play again. Explain that we worship God by thanking him.
Parents can say:  Jesus encourages us to worship God in every way. Jesus told us that the most important thing we could do is to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We can do this by thanking God and Jesus for things in our lives.

SNACK TIME: BE THANKFUL
Have a colorful snack like skittles or m&ms? Have your preschoolers name things of each color that they are thankful for.
